ALLLLLLL-District Honorees

Tunstall placed a record number of girls on the All-District teams this year with a whopping 6 Ladies representing the silver and scarlet Trojans. The girls' goal keeper, Hannah Bowman, earned the 1st team spot as the goalie!! And on second team Tunstall had: Rachel Eames, Courtney Robertson, Dana Rojas, Brittany Warren, and Kristen Wilkinson. Congratulations to all 6 of you girls who were awarded with these honors! And a HUGE congratulations to ALL the Trojan Ladies for an excellent season and tournament in 2007!!!

First Ever Regional Berth

The Lady Trojans were quite successful in defeating the Patrick County Cougars on Thursday afternoon to snag the third place finish and recieve a ticket to the Region IV tournament. The Trojans started the game off really strong and were able to score all 3 goals in the first half. The Tunstall scorers included: Katie K, and the sister duo of Amber and Lauren Elliot. Patrick Co. put forth a good effort to come back in the second half on a goal scored midway through the 40 minutes, but that was their only goal of the night and the Tunstall defense proved true as they allowed no other shots past the goal line!! Tunstall advances on the Tazewell, VA on Tuesday May, 29th against the Tazewell Lady Bulldogs. This also marks the first ever Regional berth for Tunstall's Girls' Soccer Team, so congratulations to all you Trojans, past and present who have made this possible!! The team is progressing forward year after year, reaching new heights, and having lots of fun all along the way!

GREAT JOB LADY TROJANS!

Tournament Activity

Well so far the Trojan's season is not over!! The Ladies played a great game against Magna Vista on Monday night at Bassett Stadium. Both teams played well, but the Trojans fought harder and pulled away with a 2-0 shutout against the Warriors. The two Tunstall goals were scored first by Kristen Wilkinson on a magnificently placed direct kick, and then in the second half Brittany Warren was able to shoot one in past the Magna Vista keeper. The Ladies played tonight against Martinsville and this Thursday night against the loser of tonight's Patrick Co/Bassett match up. Tunstall and their opponents will be playing for the third place spot in the tournament to advance on to Regional play. Since Tunstall played tonight, Tuesday, against Martinsville and did not finish up as well as they would've liked, losing to the Bulldogs 5-1.

However, the Ladies are SUPER excited about Thursday's game and are extremely syked to try their absolute hardest to win!!! The Trojan women are determined to leave everything on the field that night and it will certainly take a very mighty force to release this game from Tunstall's strong clutches!

To All That We Will Give, And Pray That It Is MORE Than Enough

I am officially VERY sorry for stopping with the game summaries in the middle of our season! Please excuse my shameful laziness!! But the Trojan's Regular Season has now come to a close with Tunstall holding a nice record of 4-5-1. And the Ladies' District Tournament will be heating up, as Tunstall prepares to match up against the Magna Vista Warriors on Monday, May 21, 2007 at Bassett High School Stadium, with the game's kick-off at 7:30 p.m. Tunstall is ranked as the No. 4 seed and Magna Vista the No. 5! However, both teams have equaled out against each other over the season as Tunstall first defeated the Warriors at home, but at their second meeting, Magna Vista was able to come back from a 1-0 deficit after the first half to beat the Trojans 3-1!! SO the match will certainly yield itself to an excellent night of exciting and extremely tense soccer! Emotions are going to run rampant at Bassett on Monday, so the entire Piedmont should be out to watch the match unfold! And of course to cheer on the Trojan Ladies!!!!

We have the ability and potential, but do we have the stronger will to win?
I certainly hope so!

Martinsville, Victory of Spirits

The night following a very frustrating loss to the Patrick County Cougars, Tunstall had yet another match to play, this facing would be against Martinsville City and their Lady Bulldogs!

Typically, in the Piedmont District Martinsville has one of the best, if not the best, teams. But this year it seems as though the field is trully open to every team, or at least the one that wants it more than all the others. SO Tunstall faced the Bulldogs on Thursday, and were trully able to play with them, both teams took several corner kicks and goal kicks, each had alot of throw-ins to move the ball up the field, the two each took a couple free kicks after a foul, and their was even a drop ball in the second half. Both teams were extremely aggressive and worked hard to control the ball and keep it in their possession. But once again Tunstall had trouble finishing on their offensive attacks up the field and were unable to score. Martinsville on the other hand scored once in the first half and again late in the second.

However, this game will certainly be going down as a loss on Tunstall's season record, but as for inside the hearts and minds of all the Trojan girls it certainly has helped to lift their spirits after their game against Patrick County!!!!! Their performance on Thursday was quite impressive and alot different than the previous night, so once again are the Trojans excited about their season and ofcourse looking on the extremely bright side of their spot in the district!!
This coming week the girls will be working on turning all their attacking runs into goals and are looking forward to facing Magna Vista at home on Tuesday and their first rematch of the season, against Dan River away on Friday!!!!!

Stumble at Patrick Co.

The Trojan Ladies did in fact play the Cougars on Wednesday afternoon, all the way in Stuart Virginia. However, the game did not end as Tunstall would have liked! The girls in red started the game very well and controlled the play and tempo of the almost the entire half, but at the end of the first 40 minutes PC had been able to shoot one in on the Trojans. And Tunstall came back onto the field for the second half of the match, keeping the ball on their opponents half of the pitch and working up several attacks. But the girls just weren't able to capitalize on any of their efforts and somehow Patrick County was able to score two more goals that evening, so the score ended as 3-0 against the Trojans.

But Tunstall faced Martinsville the following night, in the fair city stadium....

Postponement at Patrick Co.

The scheduled match versus Patrick Co. has been moved to tomorrow afternoon, Wed. April 18, due to the school and most of the community not having any power. But the game shall be played and when it is Tunstall shall be experimenting with a new adventure of a different starting 11. Several players have been switched around positionally, as the Trojans are going to explore a different approach. But have no fear for Tunstall will be playing with renewed zeal and motivation for a greater performance than their last game!! The Ladies enjoyed their spring break, which proved as a humbling experience after their win against Dan River, and now the Trojans girls are beginning to fully understand the magnitude of their situation within the district this season! Which is a very good one, everyone knows that Tunstall has great talent and experience and excellent potential to be a serious threat for the top team in the season and perhaps even a contender for the District Championship!! So TROJANS....don't loose sight or focus of your goals, because their is still along way to travel and we shall always continue to learn much more along the way!!!!

A Narrow Escape

Spring Break week for the Pittsylvania area is officially over and the Lady Trojans are coming away from their first loss of the District Season for 2007. Tunstall faced the Bassett High School Bengals on Thursday April 12 with a resulting score of 1-0 against the Trojan girls. After a long wait for the referees, the Ladies’ match began with Tunstall controlling much of the play, but soon the tides turned in favor of Bassett, as THS became enveloped in a gametime slump!! Finally, after the Bengals had been having control of the ball for quite a while in the first half they were able to capitalize on their first goal, and what would be the only goal of the night.
The gameball for this occasion was given to sophomore LP, for her ability to be aggressive and strong during the game, she passed it on to senior captain Kristen.

Spring Break'n Bassett!!

This week has been the official spring break for the entire Pittsylvania County, so the gals of Tunstall have had plenty of rest and relaxation coming up on tonight's match against the Bassett High School Bengals!! However, this also means that the Trojans will be missing a few of their ladies due to vacations and also wisdom teeth removal :( So Tunstall is left with only one substitute for tonight's game! But nooo matter, for the girls will still play very hard and are certainly ready to continue their winning streak over the District!!

Thhhhaat's right!! Tunstall was able to defeat Dan River High School last Friday night, for their third consecutive win over the Wildcats! Tunstall's junior Brittany scored for the Trojans in the first half, while the defense did an excellent job of shutting down Dan River's attack. And later in the second half sophmore forward Katie scored the final goal of the night, allowing Tunstall to end in a 2-0 victory!!! Great Game TROJANS!! The game ball was awarded to defensive captain Haley, who passed it on to defensive captain Rachel!

So tonight the Ladies of Tunstall will be striving to add another win to their season!! Come out and support your Trojans!! It's gonna be a grrrrrrreat year!!!!

4/05/2007

That Night Has Come!

Dan River High School, currently is the Trojan Ladies' only county competitor in the beautiful game and always present a joyful and extremely intense match-up!! Tomorrow afternoon beginning at 5:30 pm Tunstall will once again kick off against the Wildcats and play their first of two highly anticipated games with the Ringgold natives. Dan River will be in for a rough game, for the Trojans are going to be out for some serious soccer and any feline that tries to interfere with their game, will certainly think twice the next time!

Most certainly Tunstall has the better record with AAA team matches this season, but all those statistics and experiences can only carry a group so far; who ever wants the ball the most and gives 200% for all 80 minutes tomorrow will be the team to leave victorious!!

and of course that will be the Lady Trojans!!

4/01/2007

Now That THAT's Over

Well, Friday night actually yielded a fair and fun game for the Trojan Ladies against George Washington. The game was played well by both sides and Tunstall had several good offensive runs up the field, but were never able to capitalize for any goals. The Eagles were up by 3 at halftime and by the final 80 minute whistle, the score was 0-5 in favor of our urban rivals! So that's the way the cookie crumbled on the 07 preseason for THS. But this coming Friday afternoon, promptly beginning at 5:30 the Trojan Ladies will be meeting their cross-county rivals, Dan River, on their own Tunstall Coliseum!! A very exciting game is sure to unravel!!

3/29/2007

Presidential Meeting

Tomorrow night will end the Trojan Ladies pre-season matches versus their two AAA rivals, with a final game at George Washington High School. Tunstall will be facing the Eagles once again this year and with high hopes to make the scoreboard flicker it's lights in a better favor of the Trojans!! The last meeting of the two teams this 2007 season ended with a 5-0 loss to GW and a hard fought blustery match for Tunstall. The Ladies are simply hoping to leave the pitch with high spirits and a close score! The THS girls always try their hardest and put forth magnificent effort to accomplish goals that matter to them, even if not to anyone else! So tomorrow night will produce an excellent game with the clash of red and blue inside the city limits, perhaps even the beautiful game will bring forth an upset, certainly would not be the first account of alot of will power and luck defeating such a powerhouse on the futbol field!!!

STEER CLEAR OF THE FEAR TROJANS!

3/24/2007

Farewell to the Comets!

Well another year of matching up against the Halifax Comets has come and now past, as Tunstall played Halifax County for the second and final time in 07 last Wednesday night. The Trojans had all 15 gals at the game and all in working order, but perhaps the Ladies minds were'nt at the game at all. The first half started rather quickly as Halifax used its speed to turn up the heat on the pitch, and what incredible speed those Comets have! By halftime Tunstall was facing a 4-0 deficit to the girls in blue! And with the end of the next 40 minutes of play the Trojans lost to Halifax 6-0. Game ball for this match was awarded to Tunstall's keeper and senior captain Hannah, she is often faced with many opponents inside of the box as well as our own defenders, yet despite all the chaos she always keeps tough and never lets us down! Hannah passed the ball onto another senior and defensive captain Haley, because she felt Haley also displayed these traits of endurance and mental and physical toughness!!

But HAVE NO FEAR...the TROJANS are definitely still here and still excited and positive about this 2007 season! Everyone understands that facing such a AAA team, with its own JV squad and excellent practice field, have a bit of an advantage...so the Ladies aren't looking at this loss with sadened hearts, but are all ready and willing to make steps toward vast improvement!!! Tunstall faces only one match this coming week, their second encounter with George Washington on Friday night! So this week will be yielding lots of good practice time and all the girls are working together to help the young ladies learn more and our inexperienced girls are even helping to keep the veterans upbeat and enthusiastic!! TUNSTALL is coming together in unison like rarely seen before! The 2007 season is still yet to begin, so stick to it TROJANS! Our time will come!!

3/20/2007

Comets Will Be Passing...

and soon leaving, disappointed!

For the second and final time this 2007 season the Trojan Ladies will be once again facing the Halifax Comets, this game will be played with in Tunstall Stadium!! And O what a game it will be, the Trojan Women will be out for blue, in the absolutely fiercest of ways! The girls will have all 15 of the marvelous players at this match and plan on working extremely hard on the pitch to maintain possession of the ball and shoot alot more than at their last meeting with the Comets. Tunstall will also be experimenting with a new defensive strategy in the start of the game and all the girls hope to communicate with each other on the field as well!! Every Trojan is extremely excited about this rematch and are going to make the best of this opportunity!!

!Get HUNGRY TROJANS!

A Little Hometown Heat

It's that time of year again.....time for the George Washington Eagles to fly on over to our Trojan Coliseum! And flew they did (again please excuse the delay) as this past Monday night G.W. faced Tunstall on a cold and windy pitch to see who would be this year's victor! The match started well for the Trojans as the Eagles scored one goal fairly early in the game, but Tunstall was able to hold them off and stir up some offensive action of their own. But late in the first half G.W. was able to score two more goals, ending the half in a 3-0 deficit! However, the second 40 minutes truly allowed the Trojan offense to excel and gain entrance into the Eagles' 18 yard box several times, but alas Tunstall was still not able to score against these AAA flying huntresses.

Today at the Trojan practice game ball was given to senior forward Courtney for her excellent effort that night against the George Washington defense, Courtney passed this on the senior defensive captain Rachel, who always plays an extremely steady and dependable game in the backfield for Tunstall!

Don't fear that these G.W. Ladies will be running off with the Trojan pride for yet another match between the two fierce rivals is scheduled for next Friday night, this time it will be played inside the Eagles' nest...AND the Tunstall Ladies will certainly once again put up an excellent fight with even more passion and intensity than this last game enthralled!!!

Great Showing Trojans

Please excuse the extreme delay, but to conclude with last Wednesday night's match against the Halifax Comets, the Tunstall Ladies played an excellent "pre-season" opener away on the Comets' turf! The score did not turn out in the Trojans favor, but the overall outcome was certainly what the women were looking for, as the Comets scored 4 goals in the first half, but Tunstall was able to bring it all together for a nice shutout in the second 40 minutes of play!!

This first game turned out fine for the new Silver and Scarlet Ladies of Tunstall and also served as a great game to reflect upon and make a few approvements for the seasoned veterans! One of the Trojans' senior captains and goal keeper was awarded the game ball, for her excellent play in goal that night, Hannah was able to save approximately 25 of the Comets' 29 shots!! She then passed on the ball to newcomer and sophomore LP who played well in her first varsity soccer match and showed great aggresiveness on the field!! So AWESOME MATCH TROJANS!

3/12/2007

Embarking on the Journey...

"Losers quit when they get tired, Winners quit after they're finished."

Tunstall's reasoning behind playing 2 local teams that are not within their district, and are also AAA schools; is that the Trojans enjoy seeing other teams around the soccer community and also to challenge themselves during the pre-season.

The Ladies will be facing the AAA Halifax Comets of the Western Valley District this Wednesday night at 5:30pm. And the Trojans will try their best to apply the above quote to this game. The Ladies shall work their hardest and put forth an excellent effort after so many weeks of conditioning, Tunstall appears to be in quite good shape!! The Comets may have the upper hand in this face-off on Wednesday, but the game will yield great game experience for several of the Trojan’s young players and a good “refresher” course for the other seasoned veterans. But make NO mistake about it; the Tunstall Ladies will surely be out for a win!!! Every Trojan is extremely excited about their first match and is very anxious to start this HIGHLY anticipated season! So wish the gals great & amazing quantities of GOOD LUCK for their first game.

Keep On Truck'N

Alrighty kids...well so far all has been well with conditioning and our weekly Saturday clinics, which have yielded very good results in attendance numbers, and also improvements in everyone's conditioning!! So keep up the attendance on Tues. & Thurs. and Saturdays...and keep workn on your amazing moves!

Remember to drink water everyday, as you know 8-10 cups daily is recommended and HIGHLY USEFUL to your betterment!! Staying hydrated can keep you on the field longer and enable you to work harder and to your fullest potential!! Also try and run on days that we are not having conditioning, for at least 20 minutes! See everyone 2nd Semester!!!

1/11/2007

Take 2

Yeah so today was conditioning #2 and it's getting alittle better, I'm personally still looking forward to our weightroom visit!!! Soccer tip for today shall be...: Drink plenty of water, it helps hydrate you which allows your body to work better and also longer and prevents faints!! It is recommended that you drink 17-20 oz. of water about 2 hours prior to your activity!! And for super strenuous long stuff...AKA: soccer matches, drinking between 7 and 11 oz. about every 15 minutes. Weighing yourself before and after an activity can produce a more accurate measure of how much to drink during exercise, because your body can lose fluid during activities, which is shown by your weight!! For more info please click the Gatorade link to your right, this site has lots of valuable information about hydration from years of experience and research! O and no one forget about this Saturday, it's the first day of Conditioning/Indoor soccer fun @ Tunstall Middle from 2pm to about 4pm, the cost is only $20. Indoor is of course a smaller, faster, and less grassy version of soccer that can improve speed, teamwork, and footwork skill. So everyone is encouraged to come out and participate in this!!! Have a great weekend regardless, and practice your European football skills, March will be here before we know it!!! Toodles!

1/09/2007

1st Day Back

Hopefully noone was completly turned away by today's first go at some good-ole 10 minute run and sprints, those leg lifts were a bit disheartening though!! Overall it was a good turnout of athletes, both male and female, and we all showed effort, which never hurts to do!! So keep it up and see everyone back Thursday...maybe?!
